Pruchnik Named As MASCAC Men's Soccer Player Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime senior goalkeeper Mike Pruchnik was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week earlier today for his efforts in the Buccaneers’ 1-0 victory over Worcester State last Friday evening.

Pruchnik, a native of Rochester, Mass. and a graduate of Old Rochester Regional High School, made 10 saves in net to record his fifth victory and fourth shutout of the season, as the win enabled Massachusetts Maritime to clinch second place in the final conference regular season standings and a bye into the semifinal round of the league championships on Friday, November 3rd

The honor is the second of Pruchnik’s career and ironically comes after another triumph over the Lancers, as he was tabbed as the MASCAC Player of the Week back on September 19, 2016 after a 1-0 victory at Worcester State that also featured a 10-save shutout.  Over his last five appearances dating back to October 6th, Mike has posted a 3-1-1 mark down the stretch while allowing just three goals and posting clean sheets against Westfield State, Framingham State and Worcester State, as his shutout last Friday was the sixth of his career.

Head Coach Greg Perry’s Buccaneers will make their fifth straight post-season appearance and fourth trip to the MASCAC semifinals since 2013 on Friday evening when second-seeded Massachusetts Maritime hosts the winner of Tuesday evening’s conference quarterfinal round clash between third-seeded Worcester State and sixth-seeded Westfield State at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
