BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Kyle Sheehan’s (Bridgewater, Mass.) goal in the 37th minute of action proved to be the difference in leading Massachusetts Maritime to a 1-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Anna Maria Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Sheehan converted passes from fellow seniors Kevin McCord (Norwell, Mass.) and Andrew Mullen (Bridgewater, Mass.) with just under nine minutes to play in the first half on the deciding tally (his first of the season) for the host Buccaneers (3-6), and sophomore Patrick Slaney (Northbridge, Mass.) made that stand up in goal for Massachusetts Maritime, as he made five saves in recording his first victory of the year and his third career shutout.

Senior Eric Perkins (Peabody, Mass.) made seven stops in net in the setback for the visiting Amcats (0-9), as the Buccaneers outshot Anna Maria by a 20-8 margin on a night where a gusty southwest wind played a factor, as the hosts recorded 18 of their shots in the opening 45 minutes of action.

Massachusetts Maritime travels to North Adams, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on MCLA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Anna Maria travels to Beverly, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Endicott in a Commonwealth Coast Conference outing that begins at 5:30 p.m.
