Men's Soccer Standout White Honored For Efforts On Field, In Classroom

Massachusetts Maritime men’s soccer senior back Jon White was honored late last week for his efforts both on and off the field, as he was named to the 2010 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference first team all-conference squad while also earning a spot on the 2010 College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District team Presented By ESPN.

A native of Lynnfield, Mass. and a graduate of Lynnfield High School, White anchored Head Coach Greg Perry’s defensive unit as a team co-captain and added a pair of goals in 16 starts this fall, including the game-winning tally in a 3-1 season-opening triumph at Mount Ida on September 1st.  In the classroom, White earned second-team Academic All-District accolades as the lone MASCAC representative on the team, as the International Maritime Business major has posted a 3.77 cumulative grade point average while serving as Executive Officer in the Academy’s Regiment of Cadets.

White was one of three Buccaneers to earn all-MASCAC honors on the field this fall, as he joined senior Kevin McCord (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) and junior Ryan Fischer (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) on this year’s all-league squad.

Massachusetts Maritime matched its win total of the 2009 campaign with seven overall victories this fall in Perry’s 18th season at the helm, as the Buccaneers were 3-1-1 down the stretch, including the program’s first victory over Bridgewater State in 19 years back on October 23rd and a 1-1 double overtime draw with eventual MASCAC tournament champion Salem State in the season finale on October 29th.
