Men’s Lax Loses Battle of Unbeaten Teams in Boston

BOSTON, Mass – The Bucs traveled to Boston on Saturday to take on the UMass Boston Beacons in their final game of the 2021 season. Maritime entered the game 3-0 while UMB entered 4-0. The battle between two very talented teams ended, 19-11, in favor of the hosts.

Inside The Numbers

For The Bucs

  • Mitchell Maida (Burlington, Mass) tied for the game-high with six goals scored. He added two assists and picked up a team-high six ground ball.
  • Spencer Jones (Hyannis, Mass) netter two goals and tallied an assists with two caused turnovers.
  • Trey Guerrini (Foxboro, Mass), Leo Allgeier (Duxbury,Mass), and Gage Collahan (Abingdon, Md) each scored once for the Bucs. Guerrini added a team-high three assists.
  • Ryan Cameron (Franklin, Mass), and senior captains Brendan Kochan (Raynham, Mass), and Colby Unterstein (Ellington, Conn) each assisted on a Maritime goal.
  • In goal, Viktor Wright (Plymouth, Mass) recorded the loss making three saves and allowing eight goals. Peter Raei (Boston, Mass) came in to the game in a relief appearance and made 10 saves, allowing 11 goals.

 

For The Beacons

  • Gavin Admirand scored six goals in the game and assisted on two others.
  • Donovan Prozinski scored three times and added an assist.
  • Luke Murphy, Conor Lenfest, Chad Kidd, and Darragh Fahey all scored twice in the game.
  • Jack Riley and Michael Claflin rounded out the scoring with a goal each in the win.
  • Darragh Fahey assisted on a game-high six goals in the game. Eight other Beacons tallied assists.
  • Jack Dobrynski picked up 10 ground balls and won 19-of-32 faceoffs for UMB.
  • In Goal, Christian Meainhold made 24 saves and allowed 11 goals en route to the win.

 

How It Happened

  • Five goals were scored in the first 15 minutes of play, four by UMass Boston. They opened with two goals in the first three minutes, Maritime scored to cut the lead in half with 10 to play in the period. The Beacons scored twice more in the final 10 minute and lead 4-1 after one quarter of play.
  • In the second, UMB kept up their scoring ways, building off their two-goal run to end the first, extending it to five in the first 3+ minutes of the second.
  • Down 7-1, Guerrini found the back of the net to make it 7-2. That was quickly erased by a man-up goal for Boston.
  • The Bucs got another goal from Maida, assisted by Kochan with 8:55 on the clock.
  • The Beacons went on to score three more before the half, two in the final minute, to make the score 11-3 at the break.
  • Maritime opened the scoring in the third which was followed by a four-goal run for UMB.
  • Down 15-4 with under five minutes left in the third, Maida took over scoring three goals, one goal came from Boston in the middle of his scoring spree. The Bucs trailed 16-7 after three quarters.
  • In the fourth, the Bucs held the Beacons to three additional goals but could only score four of their on to cut the deficit slightly.
  • The final two goals of the game were scored by Boston with under three minutes to play. That ran the score to 19-11 which would prove to be the final tally.
