BOSTON, Mass. --  Freshman Ted Powers (Marshfield, Mass.) netted five goals and two assists for seven points as Massachusetts Maritime notched a 22-2 victory over Emerson in the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference men's lacrosse opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Rotch Field.

 

The visiting Buccaneers (5-4, 1-0 NEWMAC) raced out to a 3-1 lead in the opening 7:48 of action in building a 6-1 first quarter advantage, and Massachusetts Maritime extended that margin to 10-1 at the break while scoring 17 unanswered goals over 40-plus minutes of play.  Senior Reed McLean (Wilbraham, Mass.) joined Powers with five goals while adding an assist for six points, while junior Steven Anderson (Crownsville, Md.) and freshman Elliot Bates (Ipswich, Mass.) each added hat tricks for the winners.  Junior Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.) tallied twice and added an assist on the day for the Buccaneers, who also received a marker and two helpers from freshman Zack O'Brien (Lakeville, Mass.) to go with goals off the sticks of juniors Patrick Kearney (Scituate, Mass.) and Joseph Landy (Chatham, N.J.) as well as freshman Cody Livermore (Ludlow, Mass.).  Senior Anthony Kurylak (Exeter, N.H.) and junior Conor Greaney (Milton, Mass.) also added two assists each for Massachusetts Maritime, which received a single helper from sophomore Bobby Macarthy (Winchester, Mass.).

 

Junior Austin Max (Nashville, Tenn.) notched a goal and an assist in the setback for the host Lions (0-8, 0-1 NEWMAC), who also received a tally from sophomore Diego Rosende (Plantation, Fla.) and a helper off the stick of senior Nicholas Kitsos (Summit, N.J.).  Senior James Klose (Ellicott City, Md.) picked up the win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with eight saves in the opening 50 minutes of action, while freshman Jeffrey Statile (Ipswich, Mass.) made one stop in six minutes of play for the visitors.  Freshman Bailey Kennedy (Swampscott, Mass.) made 11 saves in the setback for Emerson, as the Buccaneers outshot the Lyons by a 54-24 margin overall (33-11 on goal) and forced 35 turnovers for the contest.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Weston, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Regis in a non-league outing that begins at 5:00 p.m., while Emerson travels to Norton, Mass. next Saturday afternoon to tangle with Wheaton in a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference clash beginning at 1:00 p.m.
