McLean Records Eighth Hat Trick Of Season As Men's Lacrosse Drops 14-8 NEWMAC Decision At Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. --  Senior Rob Holden (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and freshman Brandon King (Eastham, Mass.) each netted hat tricks to lead Clark to a 14-8 New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Granger Turf Field.

 

The host Cougars (9-3, 2-2 NEWMAC) jumped out to a 1-0 first quarter lead and extended that margin to 4-0 with 10:43 remaining in the half on man-up goals by King and junior Isaac Bass (Amherst, Mass.), but the visiting Buccaneers (5-9, 1-3 NEWMAC) netted three of the final four tallies before the break, including a pair off the stick of senior Reed McLean (Wilbraham, Mass.), to close back to within two at 5-3.  Clark scored five of the seven third quarters goals (including two by Holden) to take a 10-5 advantage into the final 15 minutes of play, and after Massachusetts Maritime closed back to within four on McLean’s third marker of the night 36 seconds into the final stanza, the hosts netted four of the contest’s next five goals to ice their triumph.

 

Junior Kyle Elkins (Stow, Mass.) tallied twice in the win for Clark, which also received a goal and two assists from junior Lucas Petricone-Berg (Nyack, N.Y.) as well as a marker and helper each from juniors Jack Goracy (West Islip, N.Y.) and Matthew Sullivan (Brunswick, Maine).  Junior Andrew Mhyre (Middlebury, Vt.) and sophomore Will Mandracchia (Melrose, Mass.) also collected goals for the Cougars, who received assists from senior Ryan Moore (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshmen Tyler Sullivan (Brunswick, Maine) and Jack Pierce (Westboro, Mass.).

 

McLean netted his eighth hat trick of the season in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of goals and an assist from sophomore Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.) as well as two goals from freshman Kenneth Parnell (Marshfield, Mass.).  Freshman Zack O’Brien (Lakeville, Mass.) also tallied for the Buccaneers, who received a pair of helpers off the stick of freshman Ted Powers (Marshfield, Mass.).

 

Junior Jacob Reiner (Farmington, Conn.) picked up the win in goal with nine first half saves for Clark, which received a combined six second half stops from freshman Nathan Maselek (Marblehead, Mass.) and Tom Berzok (Milltown, N.J.).  Senior James Klose (Ellicott City, Md.) made 11 saves in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Cougars outshot the Buccaneers by a 42-30 margin overall (25-23 on goal) for the contest.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on MIT in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference outing that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Clark entertains Babson in a NEWMAC match on Saturday afternoon at Granger Turf Field that also begins at 1:00 p.m.
