Hall, Enman Pace Women's Cross Country To 16th Place Team Finish At Emmanuel Saints Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country squads tuned up for next weekend’s MASCAC Championships with solid performances in stormy conditions at the Sixth Annual Emmanuel Saints Invitational on Friday afternoon at Franklin Park, as the Buccaneer men placed fifth of 15 teams in the competition with a score of 157 points and the Buccaneer women finished 16th in the field.

Freshman Brent Schouler (Hyannis, Mass.) led the way on the men’s side for Massachusetts Maritime by placing 16th individually with a time of 28:00 over the 8K layout, while senior Patrick Dannaher (Arlington, Va.) was next in 20th place with a time of 28:20.  Senior Paul Matz (Plainville, Mass.) followed in 31st place with a time of 29:01, while the freshmen tandem of Kevin Griffin (Stoneham, Mass.) and Steven Migridichian (Shrewsbury, Mass.) rounded out the scoring by placing 44th and 55th, respectively, with times of 30:04 and 30:44.

Johnson & Wales took top honors on the men’s side with a score of 40 points, while Babson (62 points) and host Emmanuel (99 points) finished in the runner-up and third place positions, respectively.  Massachusetts Maritime also bested MASCAC foes Salem State and Worcester State in the final team standings on the day.

Senior Meredith Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) led the way once again on the women’s side for the Buccaneers, as she finished 62nd individually in covering the 5K layout in a time of 23:19, while sophomore Sophie Enman (Marblehead, Mass.) was next in 110th place with a time of 25:32.  Freshman Elizabeth Leonardi (Sandwich, Mass.) followed in 119th place with a time of 26:24, while junior Julie Shebroe (Little Falls, N.J.) and sophomore Anna Whittemore (Weatogue, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for Massachusetts Maritime by finishing 138th and 141st, respectively, with times of 27:51 and 28:03.

Lesley took top honors on the women’s side with a score of 38 points, while Babson (57 points) and Worcester State (58 points) finished as the runner-up and third place squads, respectively.

Both Buccaneer squads will head to Westfield, Mass. next Saturday, October 23rd to compete for their respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, as the men’s 8K race begins at 11:00 a.m. followed by the women’s 5K race at Noon at Stanley Park.
