Crew Squads Open Spring Campaigns With Solid Performances At Greater Boston Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. --  After weather forced postponement of the opening three events on the calendar, both Massachusetts Maritime crew teams officially began their respective spring campaigns on Saturday afternoon at the Greater Boston Invitational that took place on the Merrimack River.

 

The Buccaneer men’s varsity four consisting of sophomore coxswain Michael Pieroni (Arlington, Mass.), senior Alexander Miemiec (Hebron, Conn.), sophomores Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.) and Thomas Miceli (Unionville, Conn.) as well as freshman Anthony Moore (Woods Hole, Mass.), finished sixth with a time of 8:09.37, as the University of Rhode Island edged out Bowdoin for the top spot in the race. 

 

Massachusetts Maritime’s women’s varsity four comprised of freshman coxswain Eduardo Quijano (Avon, Conn.), senior Jillian Stronk (Cheshire, Conn.), Sarah Lewis, Christina Brennan and freshman Brianna Caissie (Webster, Mass.), finished fourth in its heat with a time of 9:05.48, while the men’s second varsity four consisting of coxswain Miemiec, Pieroni, Peluso, Moore and Miceli also recorded a fourth place finish in its heat with a time of 7:38.74.

 

Both Buccaneer squads head to Worcester, Mass. next Saturday morning to compete on Lake Quinsigamond against Amherst, Bowdoin, Connecticut College and host Clark beginning at 9:00 a.m.
