Crew Squads Post Solid Performances In Seven Team Buccaneer Regatta

BOURNE, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads enjoyed solid performances on Herring Pond Saturday afternoon in hosting a regatta that included Bryant, Endicott, Assumption, Franklin Pierce, Brandeis and Roger Williams at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center.

 

The Buccaneer men’s varsity four consisting of sophomore coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.), fellow sophomores Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) and Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) as well as freshmen James Coburn (Higganum, Conn.) and Thomas Miceli (Unionville, Conn.) took top honors with a time of 6:48.12 to best Endicott by 42 seconds, while the women’s varsity four consisting of freshman coxswain Katherine Rastallis (East Falmouth, Mass.), junior Jillian Stronk (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshmen Madisen Buttner (Lakeville, Mass.), Laura Hahn (Colchester, Conn.) and Genevieve Devine (Canton, Mass.) placed seventh with a time of 7:48.04 in an event won by Bryant.

 

Massachusetts Maritime’s men’s novice eight comprised of freshman coxswain Jack McMurrer (Brewster, Mass.), sophomore Dylan White (Weymouth, Mass.) and freshmen Matthew Palmer (Paxton, Mass.), Jeffrey Kahler (Brattleboro, Vt.), James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.), Timothy Birch (Hollis, N.H.), Anthony Bratica (Milford, Mass.), Kevin Graney (Hanover, Mass.) and Charles Mojcik (Shelton, Conn.) finished second to Endicott in the race with a time of 7:51.78, while the Buccaneers swept the top three spots in the men’s novice four over the Gulls.  The “A” entry of freshman coxswain Michael Pieroni (Arlington, Mass.), White, Bratica, Birch and Palmer posted a time of 7:51.86, while the “B” scull of coxswain McMurrer, Kahler, Lucenta, Graney and Mojcik were second in a time of 8:23.23.  The Buccaneer “C” boat of coxswain Devine and freshmen Matthew Peluso (Ledyard, Conn.), Stephen Gillis (Stoughton, Mass.), Benjamin Monteiro (North Falmouth, Mass.) and Marcus Mazyck (Kingston, Mass.) finished third with a time of 9:10.99 in the event.

 

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads head to Lowell, Mass. next Saturday afternoon to compete at the Greater Boston Invitational on the Merrimack River beginning at 9:00 a.m.
