Men’s Crew Impresses against JWU

Men's crew found their way out on to the water for the first time in 2021 on Saturday morning and they did not disappoint. The Bucs finished ahead of Johnson & Wales for their first win of the season, helping Buccaneer rowing go undefeated, 3-0, on the season between the men's and women's teams.

The Buccaneer men started off the race in convincing fashion over the Wildcats. Utilizing a well-honed race start, Maritime took a significant lead in the first 200 meters. They then built on that advantage with brute force, inching away from their opponent with every stroke. They completed the 2,000 meter course 41 seconds ahead of Johnson & Wales.

A Buccaneer shell filled by bow William Nolan, 2-seat Jack Duguay, 3-seat Gabriel Calouro, in the stroke seat was captain Seth Lapriore and the coxswain was Aidan Alusic-Bingham. The Bucs finished with a time of 9:32, the Wildcats coming in behind them at 10:13.

This was also Alusic-Bingham's second victory of the season as the coxswain. Last week for the women' team, this week for the men's.

Driving this successful effort were seniors Seth Lapriore, captain, at stroke and Will Nolan holding down the critical bow seat. Over four years these two have been integral to Maritime Crew's growing numbers, a code of responsibility and record of recent success.

Though it was a short season, the Buccaneers competed hard and were strong in their only race and only win of the 2021 spring season.
