Nine Buccaneers Named To 2011 New England Football Conference All-Academic Team

Nine members of the Massachusetts Maritime football program have been named to the 2011 New England Football Conference All-Academic Team that was announced today by NEFC Publicist Roger Crosley. To qualify for the team a player must have completed three semesters at the same institution with a cumulative of 3.0 or better grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale)

A member of the Massachusetts Maritime Athletic Hall of Fame will be honored for a second straight year as the recipient of the Ron Burton Distinguished American Award from the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, as former Buccaneer standout lineman and current Curry College Head Coach Skip Bandini '81 will receive the accolade next May, following in the footsteps of his coach, Don Ruggeri, who was honored with the Burton Award this past spring

Another week has brought more accolades for Massachusetts Maritime senior linebacker Walter Butler, as he has been named to the 2011 D3Football.com All-East Region Team that was announced on Monday evening. Additionally, Butler has been selected to play in the Third Annual D3 Senior Classic that will take place on Friday, December 9th at Salem Stadium in Salem, Va., the site of the NCAA Division III Stagg Bowl national championship game, at 7:00 p.m. EST

Rivalry games usually bring out back-and-forth affairs, and the 33rd Annual Cranberry Bowl Presented By Ocean Spray between Massachusetts Maritime and Bridgewater State was no different Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Mike Stanton threw for three touchdowns in the see-saw battle, while senior Mike Bois registered a game-high 11 tackles as the Buccaneers dropped a 38-35 New England Football Conference Bogan Division decision to the Bears at Swenson Field in Bridgewater, Mass.
