WESTFIELD, Mass -- The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) announced today that football's Jack Mulligan (Billerica, MA) has been named the conference's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as voted on by the eight Athletic Directors in the league. . Mulligan becomes the second Buccaneers in the last five year to receive the honor after Ben Paine received it for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Mulligan, who was a punter and linebacker for the Bucs football team for the last four seasons, was selected to the All-MASCAC Second Team in 2022 and 2023 as a punter. During his two year stint as the program's punter, Jack punted 82 times totaling 3,295 yards with an average of 40.2 yards per punt. His longest punt went 66 yards and he pinned opponents inside their own 20 yard line on 29 occasions. Defensively as a linebacker, he accumulated 64 tackles with a sack, 6.5 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, one interception, five pass breakups, and a blocked kick. 

In the classroom, Mulligan posted a 3.904 GPA in his time at the Academy, close to the top of his class, and was named to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy President's list (3.6 GPA or higher) each of his eight semesters on Taylor's Point. He also earned a spot on the MASCAC's Fall All-Academic Team each of the four semesters he was eligible. He also earned regional academic acknowledgement from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District List in 2022. 

Regimentally at the Academy, Mulligan served as the 4th Company Commander, and the Emergency Management Operations Officer.

Jack has done internships with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and EAGLESHARK Security Counseling in Denmark while at Maritime on his way to earning his degree in Emergency Management.

The MASCAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year has been awarded annually since 1980 to a student-athlete who has excelled in both the classroom and on the field of play while maintaining at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average through their last year of athletic eligibility.
