Men's & Women's Crew Squads Combine For Trio Of Top Four Performances At Assumption Regatta

WORCESTER, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads combined to record a trio of top four performances during competition in a six-team regatta hosted by Assumption on Lake Quinsigamond Saturday afternoon.

 

The Buccaneer women’s varsity four consisting of senior coxswain James Lucenta (Yorktown, Va.), senior Rochelle Gaudette (Fall River, Mass.) and freshmen Cat Swan (Ashland, Ohio), McKenzie Hartman (Sudbury, Mass.) and Paige Decker (Nantucket, Mass.) posted a fourth place finishing time of 10:30.2, as Assumption and Bryant combined to take the top three spots in the race.

 

The Massachusetts Maritime men’s varsity four comprised of senior coxswain Michael Pieroni (Arlington, Mass.), senior Liam Barry (Wellesley, Mass.), sophomores Nathanael Costa (Forestdale, Mass.) and Timothy O’Neill (Block Island, R.I.) as well as freshman Scott Jones (Lebanon, N.H.), posted a second place time of 7:39.4.  Clark took top honors in the event, while Roger Williams and Johnson & Wales finished behind the Buccaneer scull.

 

Massachusetts Maritime’s men’s novice four consisting of sophomore coxswain Ethan Logan (Vernon, Conn.), sophomore Tyler Vito (Foxboro, Mass.) and freshmen Cyrus Bastarache (Middleboro, Mass.), Gregory Couse (Sewell, N.J.) and Shengyi Wang (Shanghai, China) grabbed the top spot in the competition with a time of 9:03.5, as the Buccaneers bested runner-up Johnson & Wales by 32 seconds.

 

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads will be idle until Saturday, April 22nd when the Buccaneers head to Lowell, Mass. to compete at the Greater Boston Invitational that begins at 9:00 a.m.
