MILTON, Mass – The Buccaneers took to the road for the second time this week to take on a Commonwealth Coast Conference Opponent in the form of Curry College at Katz Field in Milton. The Bucs picked up their first win of the season, 15-7, to improve to 1-1 on the year.

For The Bucs

• Freshman attacker Mitchell Maida (Burlington, Mass) scored a career high six goals in his second game as a Buccaneer to lead all scorers. He also had an assist.
• Senior Franklin Ragge (Scituate, Mass) score four goals for the Bucs in the win.
• Sophomore Spencer Jones (Hyannis, Mass) netted three goals and senior Captain Benjamin Avakian (Bourne, Mass) scored twice.
• Junior midfielder and face off man Colby Unterstein (Ellington, Conn) recorded two assists offensively. In the faceoff circle he won 16 of 25 faceoffs. It is his second consecutive game with 16 faceoffs won. Unterstein also led the team with 13 ground balls.
• Avakian and junior Trey Guerrini (Foxborough, Mass) each had an assist in the win.
• Sophomore long stick midfielder Patrick Lawson (East Sandwich, Mass) led the way defensively with a game-high four caused turnovers.
• Senior goalkeeper Matthre Pierson (Longmeadow, Mass) picked up the win between the pipes making eight saves on 15 shots, allowing the seven Curry goals.

For The Colonels

• Dane Hanson led Curry offensively with two goals. Five other players scored once for the hosts, Andrew DeLeary, Joseph Stronach, Matthew Scahill, Jake Stebbins, and Cameron Nigro.
• Deleary and Harrison Fallon each has two assists in the game. Nigro recorded one.
• DeLeary and Stronach led the Colonels with four ground balls picked up each.
• Stebbins led the way for Curry with three caused turnovers.
• Goakeeper Mike Collins face a barrage of shots, 37 to be exact, made 22 saves and allowed 15 goals in the loss.

How It Happened

Early on in the first period, the Colonels took control of the game scoring under a minute in to the first quarter and again just over three minutes in. Both goals were scored by Hanson and assisted by Fallon. After going down 2-0, the Bucs found their stride scoring three unanswered goals to take the lead, 3-2, with 1:16 left in the first quarter. Maida, Ragge and Jones each scored. The score remained 3-2 at the end of the first.

The Bucs extended their unanswered goals streak to four on Maida's second of the afternoon five minutes in to the second quarter. Down two goals, Curry cut the Buccaneer lead to one goal with 10 minutes to play before the half on a DeLeary score. Maritime proceeded to go on their second four-goal run of the game getting two more goals from Maida, one from Avakian and another from Ragge to put the Bucs up 8-3 with 2:30 left in the second. Curry closed out the first half by scoring in a man-up situation to cut the lead to four goals with 1:08 left on the clock. The Buccaneers took their 8-4 lead in to the halftime break.

Curry opened the second half with a Stebbins goal two minutes in to make it 8-5 Maritime. The Bucs then grabbed three goals from Ragge, Avakian and Maida to open their lead to six, 11-5, over the next seven minutes. With just over 1:30 left in the third quarter, Scahill scored to book end the quarter with Curry goals and the teams went to the fourth with the score 11-6 Maritime.

The fourth quarter was all Maritime, scoring four goals to Curry's one. Maida scored two minutes in, Jones netted back-to-back goals over the next six minutes and Ragge scored the final goal of the afternoon for both teams with 2:11 left on the clock. Mixed in after Jones' second goal of the quarter was a Nigro goal for Curry with 3:49 left. The Buccaneers went on to win the game by a final of 15-7.

The Buccaneers will play their home opener on Wednesday, March 11^th against Norwich University at Clean Harbors Stadium. Faceoff is scheduled for 5pm.
