GAME #2 FINAL:          MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1, RIVIER 0

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Kyle Kennedy (Woodbury, Conn.) tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout and struck out five to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 1-0 nightcap victory over Rivier and a sweep of a non-league college baseball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field, as the Buccaneers received a combined five RBI from sophomore Everett Walsh (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and freshman Aidan Desrosiers (North Attleboro, Mass.) to post an 11-4 triumph in the opener.

Senior Brendan O’Kane’s (Pocasset, Mass.) third inning sacrifice fly plated freshman Terrence Mudie (Barnstable, Mass.) with the only run Kennedy would need in the second contest for the host Buccaneers (5-4), as he threw 51 of his 75 pitches for strikes to earn his first win of the spring.  O’Kane, Desrosiers, Mudie and junior Bobby Rosano (North Reading, Mass.) picked up the hits in the nightcap for Massachusetts Maritime, as sophomore Nicholas Pica (Hampstead, N.H.) was just as effective on the mound for the visiting Raiders (0-10) as Kennedy in going the distance and fanning a pair of fall to 0-3 on the season with the setback.

The Buccaneers jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead in the opener on an RBI single by Walsh, a two-run Desrosiers double and a run-scoring groundout by senior Matt Pelletier (Bradford, Mass.), but Rivier answered back with a three-run third inning rally that featured RBI singles off the bats of junior J.J. Montello (Nashua, N.H.) and sophomore David Feole (Scituate, R.I.) as well as a run-scoring groundout by freshman Drew Neely (Lakeland, Fla.).  Desrosiers extended Massachusetts Maritime’s lead to 5-3 with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame, and the hosts broke things open with six runs in the middle innings that included Walsh’s second run scoring safety of the afternoon along with a pair of sacrifice flies by O’Kane and senior Ben Maher (Plymouth, Mass.).

Desrosiers and Walsh each had three hits as part of an 11-hit attack in the opening game triumph for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received two hits from senior Keith Sanchez (Monroe Township, N.J.).  Junior Zac Cooney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) improved to 3-0 on the mound for the Buccaneers with three more scoreless innings of relief work that included a pair of strikeouts, as fellow junior T.J. Notarangelo (Foxboro, Mass.) fanned four over the first three frames for the hosts.  Junior David Cusack (Newburyport, Mass.) rapped out two of Rivier’s eight hits in the lid-lifter, as junior Steven Carlberg (Dover, N.H.) allowed eight unearned runs over the first 3 2/3 innings to fall to 0-2 on the mound for the Raiders this spring.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Tufts in a non-league outing on Wednesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Rivier heads to Cambridge, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Lesley in a non-league contest that begins at 7:00 p.m.
