New Vision, Same Mission

New Vision, Same Mission

The Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA)  Athletic Department announced a new brand identity as part of a wider campus rebranding campaign.  The work was developed by 3Thought Creative and includes the re-adoption of the classic blue and gold, a new Buccaneer mascot, Maritime M, Buccaneers wordmark and the official introduction of new typography, numerals and hashtags.

"We had an opportunity to update our branding and are very excited to finally reveal what we have been working so hard on for a number of months," said Sports Information Director Joe Malkin. "Our new branding efforts represent a more modernized philosophy for the Buccaneers with a nod to the classic colors our alumni love. We feel that we have found a new way to engage our cadets, fans, parents and Buccaneer alumni."

"We are excited about our new look and paying homage to the history of Buccaneers Athletics," said Director of Athletics Mike Kelley. "This new look gives us an identity we have long been looking to obtain and through a lot of hard work and time we believe we have achieved that goal."

The new design of the Buccaneers reflects a modern look that many NCAA programs are pivoting to and reflects the tradition of Massachusetts Maritime's storied history while also bringing together and reinforcing the Academy's overall brand identity. All of these factors will provide advantages in advancing our student recruitment efforts and uniformity between teams on the field of play.

During the last year, a committee of academy employees and alumni worked with 3Thought Creative to create a new Buccaneer logo and decide on a color scheme that is bold, strong, and that have been synonymous with the Academy since the Buccaneers joined the NCAA in the 1970's.

Applying the updated brand identity will begin immediately across all platforms, channels, and uniforms and, over time, will begin to change on our facilities, signage, and in our fan experience. While some of the updates have already been seen on the Buccaneers social media channels, there are more changes to come to further enhace the brand identity.
