Men's and Women's Track & Field Both Finish Fourth at ECSU

MANSFIELD, CT -- Buccaneer track and field took part in the Eastern Connecticut Invitational on Friday afternoon, their first of two meets this weekend. With strong showings on the men's and womens side both teams finish fourth in their respective divisions. 

On the mens side, Joshua Rousseau finished second in the hammer throw, setting a new Maritime program record with a throw of 47.27 meters. 

Anthony Childs finished second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.67 seconds, .35 seconds back of the first place finisher from Eastern Connecticut.

The Buccaneers men's 4x100 relay team, composed of Matthew McFarlaneDemetri BoozerAnthony Childs, and Ja'iel Johnson finished fourth overall with a time of 45.04 seconds picking up six points for the team.

Freshman Steven Westgate picked up a fourth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles coming across at 17.70 seconds and getting six points for Maritime.

Ja'iel Johnson finished seventh with two points in the men's 100 meter dash at 11.37 seconds.

In a field of 10 men's teams, the Buccaneers compiled 44 points for a fourth place finish behind the hosts, Nichols, and Bridgewater State.

On the women's side, Alyssa Grieco broke the 800 meter run for the second time this season and finished second with a finishing time of 2:31.79. Grieco also picked up two points and a sixth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles at 17.33 seconds.

Lily Hakkarainen finished second overall in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:35.59 to pick up eight points for the Bucs.

The womens finished fourth our of eight teams with 30 points. Ahead of them were Hosts Eastern Connecticut, Bridgewater State and UMass Boston.

The Buccaneers are at MIT on Saturday beginning at 11am for the Sean Collier Invitational.
