Softball: Maritime Unable to Hold off Trailblazers in Conference Twinbill

BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- The Buccaneers hosted MCLA in a conference doubleheader at Rollins Field on Saturday in a battle of two teams who had yet to win a conference game. At the end of the day, MCLA hit the road with a conference sweep of the Bucs, 9-0 and 12-8.

 

Game One

How It Happened

MCLA scored one in the top of the first to take an early lead over Maritime. 

Flores singled in two runs in the third to make it 3-0.

In the third, MCLA scored four runs. One on a wild pitch, another on Albright's homerun, another on a Teta triple and the last on a Buccaneer Error.

Up 7-0, Flores singles in two runs in the top of the fifth to give MCLA the 9-0 lead. The Bucs failed to score in the bottom of the inning to finish the game, 9-0.

  • Carleen Harring, Maia Ostromecki, and Mikayla Hunter each tallied a hit.

  • Pittsley and Deasy each scored twice.
  • Pittsley recorded a triple in the game. Ostromecki and Hunter had doubles.

How It Happened

MCLA scored first in the top of the first on a Woyton single scoring Teta. They added another run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Albright to score Ibrahim.

In the third inning, the Trailblazers scored two more. The first on a Buccaneer miscue, the second on an Ibrahim ground out. In the bottom of the third, the Bucs got on the board for the first time when Pope stole second allowing Camelo to score from third. An arrant throw from MCLA allowed Pope to come around and score as well. MCLA led 4-2 after three.

In the fourth, the 'Blazers extended their lead to 6-2 on a Flores single that scored two. In the bottom of the frame, Ostromecki and Hunter each doubled to bring in a total of three runs. The Bucs closed the MCLA lead to two, 6-5.

MCLA opened it back to three in the top of the fifth on a wild pitch. The Bucs got that run back in the bottom of the fifth when Harring singled to short to bring in Pittsley. Maritime trailed 7-5 after five.

In the sixth and seventh innings, MCLA scored five runs, two in the sixth, three in the seventh to take a 12-6 lead after 6.5 innings. In the bottom of the seventh, as they have done all year long, the Bucs fought hard, scoring two runs on a Harring ground out to score Pittsley then on a Wright single up the middle that scored Deasy. The Bucs couldn't get any more runs across as they dropped game two, 12-8.

 

What's Next

The Bucs are at Bridgewater State on Tuesday afternoon for a conference doubleheader beginning at 3pm.
