Softball: Buccaneers Sweep Falcons at Home

BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- Maritime hosted Fisher College for the second time this season at home. After taking the first two games on the season in March, the Bucs followed that up with another sweep of the Falcons, 11-0 and 11-2.

 

Game One

The Basics

At The Plate

Maritime

  • Senior captain Cam Roberts-Capak went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, drove in four runs and scored a run.
  • Mikayla HunterRubi ButlerOlivia Camelo, and DiDomenico each had two-hit games for the Bucs.
  • Butler drove in three runs, Hunter brought in two. 
  • Junior Captain Abby Pope, DiDomenico and Camelo each scored twice. 
  • Pope drew two walks and stole two bases in the game.
  • The Bucs had three extra-base hits, DiDomenico and Camelo with doubles, Roberts-Capak with a triple. 
  • Camelo stole three bases in the game, including a steal of home. Roberts-Capak, Butler and Kayley Wright each stole one bag.

Fisher 

  • Nayleemar Montalvo recorded the only Falcon hit in the game. 

 

How It Happened

Sicily DiDomenico was nearly perfect on the mound. She struck out 14 hitters to tie former Buc Carli Thomas and allowed just one hit in the game.

The Maritime offense scored seven runs in the second inning which started with a two RBI single off the bat of Butler and ended with an RBI single by DiDomenico to right field.

The Bucs added four runs in the fourth to go up 11-0 on a Butler ground out and her third RBI of the game, then a Roberts-Capak triple to left center that scored three.

DiDomenico sat down the Falcons in order in the fifth to win the game 11-0.

At The Plate

Maritime

  • The Bucs tallied seven hits in the game, two from Cam Roberts-Capak and Kylie Deasy, one apiece from Pittsley, Mikayla Hunter, and Rubi Butler
  • Pittsley, Deasy and Butler each drove in two runs.
  • Roberts-Capak, Pittsley, and Deasy all scored twice. 
  • Pittsley had the only extra base hit, a double.
  • Roberts-Capak stole four bags, Deasy took three, Pope stole two to tie the program record for stolen bases in a season, Pittsley and DiDomenico each stole one bag.
  • Pope drew three more walks in the game to run her daily total to five.

Fisher

  • Shaniah Hazard was 3-for-3 in game two with two doubles. She also scored once. 
  • Stephanie Faiella, Madison Kelley, and Paola Velazquez each had hits for the Falcons.
  • Velazquez was credited with an RBI.

 

How It Happened

The top of the lineup for the Falcons came out swinging in the top of the first inning. Hazard and Kelley both reached on hits and were driven in by Velazquez. In the bottom of the first inning, the Bucs scored seven to take the lead back from Fisher. Roberts-Capak scored on a passed ball after stealing second and third. The last run of the inning was scored by Kayley Wright who came home on a wild pitch for a walk of Roberts-Capak.

The Buccaneers went on to score four more runs, two on Pittsley's double, one on a Deasy single that scored Pittsley, and the last on a Hunter single bringing Deasy home, in the bottom of the third. 

Though they didn't score again, the Buccaneers shut down the Falcons in the fourth and fifth to earn the game two win, 11-2, and sweep of the day for the second time this season over the Falcons.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers are scheduled to play Lasell University on the road at 4pm on Wednesday, March 6th. There is rain in the forecast so keep an eye on mmabucs.com for any changes.

On saturday, March 9th, the Buccaneers play a conference doubleheader against Westfield State. All day Saturday the Buccaneers and Owls will raise awareness for Autism by wearing purple socks among other things at Rollins field. Game one begins at 1pm on Saturday.
