Softball: Bucs and Pride Play two Barn Burners in Weston

WESTON, MA -- Softball played their final non-conference games before opening conference play begins on Saturday. In a double dip against Regis College, the Bucs and Pride played two exciting close games. The games ended 4-2 and 3-2 in favor of the Pride.

 

Game One

  • The Pride recorded seven hits in the game, Reilly Jewett led the way with two. Five others tallied hits.
  • Jewett drove in two runs as well.
  • Four different players scored the runs in the team's win.

How It Happened

Maritime took a 2-0 lead in the first. With Pope on base, Pittsley drove her in by way of a single. Deasy then doubled to bring Pittsley in to score.

Regis got a run back in the bottom of the second inning on a ground out to third that scored the runner from third.

DiDomenico and Butterfield had the middle innings on lockdown, holding the score at 2-1. 

Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Regis struck for three runs on a Jewett double that scored two and a solo home run to make the score 4-2. 

The Buccaneers threatened in the top of the seventh with Hunter walking and Ostromecki hitting a double, putting two runners in scoring position with two out. Regis was able to keep those runners there recording the final out to take the 4-2 victory.

  • Maia Ostromecki tallied two of the Bucs seven hits in the game. 
  • Pittsley, DiDomenico, Carleen HarringMikayla Hunter, and Olivia Camelo all had one hit.
  • DiDomenico and Ostromecki both drove in a run.
  • Harring and DiDomenico scored the Buccaneer runs.
  • Abby Pope drew the only walk surrendered by Ward.
  • Harring and DiDomenico's hits were both doubles.
  • Camelo added a stolen base for the Bucs.

Regis

  • Two players tallied two hits each for the Pride.
  • Four other players had one hit in the win.
  • Three different players drove in runs and three different players scored.

How It Happened

Regis scored two runs in the first and one in the second to take a 3-0 lead after two innings of play.

Ward held the Bucs to no runs through the first five innings. Pittsley came in in relief of DiDomenico and had one of the best outings of her career allowing three hits in four innings with no runs surrendered.

In the top of the sixth, Maritime scored two runs on DiDomenico's double and an Ostromecki single that cut the Pride lead to one, 3-2. With one out, the Buccaneers proceeded to load the bases. With the tying run on third, Deasy lined a ball to third that caught the runner off the bag allowing Regis to turn a double play to win the game, 3-2.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers travel to Framingham State on Saturday for their first conference games of the season. The first of two games is scheduled to begin at 12pm.
