Softball: Buccaneers Swept by AMCATS in Thrilling Doubleheader

BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- Softball hosted Anna Maria College for a doubleheader on Sunday. In two games that had a little bit of everything and provided an exciting afternoon of softball, the AMCATS came out on top in both games, 16-9 and 13-2.

 

Game One

The Basics

Final: AMCATS 16, Buccaneers 9

  • The Buccaneers totaled 11 hits in the game, three from Olivia Camelo, two from Kylie Deasy
  • Abby PopeCamryn Roberts-CapakCarleen HarringMikayla Hunter, Maia Ostromecki, and DiDomenico each recorded one hit.
  • Pope and Camelo tallied the team's extra base hits, a double and triple respectively. 
  • Deasy and Ruby Butler each drove in two runs. Ostromecki and Camelo also drove in runs. 
  • Deasy and Roberts-Capak both scored twice in the game.
  • Camelo stole two bases and Roberts-Capak one in the loss.

Anna Maria

  • The AMCATS totaled 19 hits, four from Eden Forget and Sabrina Liston. Michelle Cilley and Kiara Edmonds recorded three hits each. Saylor Costa also had a multi-hit game with two.
  • Cilley scored a game-high five runs in the win. She also drove in four runs. Forget drove in six runs and Costa drove in four of her own. 
  • Cilley had two of the team's three extra base hits, both doubles. Forget added a triple.

How It Happened

Anna Maria scored first in the top of the first when Cilley came across on a Liston Single. Down one, Maritime answered quickly in the bottom of the first frame scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead thanks to an AMCAT miscue and a bases loaded walk of Butler.

In the second, Anna Maria retook the lead and opened it to four runs as they plated five total in the innings. They went on to add three more in the top of the third and four more in the fourth.

Down 13-2 and down to their final at bat with the mercy rule staring them down, the Buccaneers came out swinging and scored four runs to make it 13-6, extending the game to the sixth inning.

Neither team plated a run in the sixth, keeping the score at 13-6. In the seventh, the 'Cats scored three to extend their lead to 10, 16-6. In the bottom of the seventh, the Bucs didn't go down without a fight as they plated three runs and threatened to score more. Unable to bring any more runs across, the Bucs fell in game one 16-9.

  • There were 17 hits in the game for the AMCATS. Samantha Dahill had three. Six other hitters recorded two each.
  • Saylor Costa drove in three runs. Sabrina Liston and Kiara Edmonds each plated two.
  • Eden Forget scored three times to lead the AMCATS
  • Costa and Liston hit the two extra-base hits for Anna Maria, a double and a triple. 
  • Forget was credited with a stolen base in the game.

How It Happened

Similar to game one, the 'Cats scored in the top of the first and were answered in the bottom by the Bucs. The Bucs then added a run in the second to take a 2-1 lead. 

From there, the game was all AMCATS. They scored six in the fourth and five in the fifth then set down the Bucs in the bottom of the fifth to take the game by run-rule in five innings ,13-2.

The Buccaneers travel to Curry College on Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 3pm.
