Softball Drops Game Two of Series Against Badgers

North Myrtle Beach, S.C. -- After winning againt the Badgers on Friday afternoon, 7-4, the Buccaneers took on NVU-Johnson once again in the first of three games on Saturday. In game two of the teo-game series Johnson got the better of the Bucs, 12-4 in five innings.

  • The Badgers put together a 15 hit performance, with three hits each coming from the top of the lineup of the bats of Ella Embry, Jennavieve Rapoza and Mariah Muskin.
  • Matea Smith also had a multi-hit game with two.
  • Rapoza and Evelyn Brubaker has the two extra base hits in the game for the Badgers with a double and triple respectively. 
  • Rapoza led the game with four RBI while Smith, Fleischer and Olay all had two.
  • Embry stole the only base in the game for Johnson.

How It Happened

The Badgers struck first in the top of the first frame scoring one on a Muskin single, scoring Embry. Holding the Bucs at bay for the first two innings of action, the Badgers increased their lead in the top of the third with four runs, all coming off of singles. In the bottom of the third, the Bucs broke through on a DiDomenico ground out to first that scored Roberts-Capak from third.

In the top of the fourth, the Badgers pulled away scoring four more runs to bring the score to 9-1.

Down eight, the Bucs bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth as they plated three runs on three infield singles which scored Carleen Harring, Camelo, and Pope. 

With the score now 9-4, Johnson scored three more runs in the top of the fifth on a Rapoza double that scored two and a bases loaded hit by pitch. With the score 12-4 the Bucs needed at least a run to push the game past the fifth inning. Fleischer retired the side in order to end the game in favor of the Badgers for their first win of the season, 12-4.
