Galvin Sets Pace As Men's Cross Country Closes Out Campaign With 47th Place Finish At NCAA Regionals

WESTFIELD, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime men’s cross country team closed out its 2016 season with a 47th place finish at the 2016 NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships that took place Saturday afternoon at Westfield State’s Stanley Park.

 

Junior Robby Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) set the pace for the Buccaneers, as he completed the 8K layout in a time of 27:42.12 to finish 177th in a field of 384 competitors.  Junior Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) and freshman Daniel Plumb (Hopkinton, Mass.) were next with respective 262nd and 273rd place times of 29:08.06 and 29:17.83, while freshmen Douglas Cleary (Pocasset, Mass.) and Kyle Hansen (North Chelmsford, Mass.) rounded out Massachusetts Maritime’s scoring with respective 29:55.02 and 31:31.90 that were good for 298th and 343rd place.

 

MIT and Williams tied for the regional title with 110 points, as the Engineers edged out the Ephs for the top spot based upon having the highest scoring individual runner.  Amherst finished in third place with a team score of 141 points.

 

The Buccaneers closed out the campaign after taking top honors for a third straight season at the Travis Fuller Invitational on October 1st, and Massachusetts Maritime placed fifth at the MASCAC Championships under second year Head Coach Chris Slattery.
