Men's Lacrosse Comeback Attempt Falls Short Against Raiders

NASHUA, N.H. -- Maritime traveled north of the border on Wednesday for a midweek matchup with non-conference opponent Rivier on the road. Down 5-1 at the half, the Bucs surged back in the second half outscoring the Raiders 5-2. It wasn't enough to catch up as Rivier took the win, 7-6.

Maritime

  • Nick Lamattina and Braeden Kosiewicz each scored two goald for the Bucs.
  • Jack Iversen and Ryan Cameron each scored a goal as well.
  • Iversen and Lamattina each had an assist as well.
  • Lally picked up a game-high five ground balls, the Bucs had 31 total.
  • Lally and Captain Patrick Lawson each caused three turnovers of the Buccaneers 10 in the game.
  • Maritime went 16 of 20 on clears, won nine of 16 faceoffs, all by freshman Brian Rosher
  • The Bucs took 42 shots in the came and scored two man-up goals on five opportunities.

Rivier

  • Jeffrey Potter and Michael Ference each scored twice for the Raiders.
  • Trevor Reilly, Coby Mercier, and Chris Heitmiller each scored in the win.
  • Potter and Mercier each tallied an assist.
  • Ference and Sean Fahey picked up a team-high four ground balls.
  • Rivier only caused two turnovers in the game, one from Connor Eck, the other from Robert DelPrete.
  • Riv won seven of 16 faceoffs, took 23 shots, were successful on 19 of 23 clears and scored two man-up goals on eight opportunities.

 

How It Happened 

Rivier controlled the entire fifth quarter, scoring four goals and not allowing their guests to get on the score sheet. The scoring opened with a goal just over a minute into the game and was followed by another goal 38 seconds later. The Raider sticks went cold as it took 10 more minutes for them to get on the board again with just under four minutes left in the quarter. They added the fourth with 1:46 left in the quarter and took a 4-0 lead into the second.

Riv extended their scoring streak to five, taking a 5-0 advantage with 13:21 left in the first half. The Buccaneers got on the scoresheet on a man=up goal by Kosiewicz to make it 5-1 at half.

In the second half, the Buccaneers grabbed the momentum, scoring three of four goals in the third quarter. Iversen scored three minutes in for Maritime. Mercier tacked on a goal for Rivier with five to play in the third. Kosiewicz scored his second with four and a half in the quarter which was followed by Lamattina's first with 2:28 left. The Bucs had cut the Rivier lead down to two goals, 6-4, at the end of three quarters of play.

In the fourth, Maritime once again outscored Rivier, this time 2-1, to inch closer. Potter opened the scoring in the fourth with a goal over 10 minutes into the quarter. Cameron scored with just under three to play and Lamattina added a second as the mad dash was won by the Bucs to tie the game and force overtime. The Lamattina goal at 1:31 of regulation would prove to be the final goal of the contest and Rivier took home the win, 7-6.
