Buccaneers and Vikings Split MASCAC Twin Bill

SALEM, Mass -- Following their win on Thursday over Salem at home, the Bucs and Vikings met on Saturday to complete their three-game conference series in Salem. The Bucs took game one thanks to AJ Pietrafesa's fifth home run of the season but came up short in game two, losing 2-1. The win in game one for Maritime sealed their fourth conference series win of the season.

Maritime

  • Damon White led all players in the game with two base hits. Tuckers LeslieAJ PietrafesaMichael Estrada, and Michael Logiudice all had one hit in the win.
  • Pietrafesa drove in the only two runs of the game on his fifth home run of the season.
  • Leslie and Petriafesa scored the two runs.
  • Estrada added a double to Pietrafesa's home run as the only extra base hits in the game.

Salem

  • Owen Duggan, James Dolan, and Aidan Lynch all had one hit in the game.
  • Lynch recorded a stolen base in the loss.

How It Happened

It was a scoreless pitcher's duel between Dwight and Pare for the first seven innings of game one of the day between the Buccaneers and Vikings. Pare allowed five hits and Dwight allowed just three. Pare did strike out nine hitters in his more than seven inning appearance. 

In extra innings, in the top of the eighth, with two outs, Pietrafesa broke the scoreless tie with his fifth home run of the season and the Bucs led 2-0 heading to the bottom of the eighth.

Baiardi allowed two runners on in his inning of work but stranded them on the corners to earn his fourth save of the season and the 2-0 win for the Bucs in game one.

The win in game one gives the Buccaneers their third conference series win of the season.

  • Yabdriel Gonzalez and Edward Field each had two hits in the win. Antonio Belgrove added one hit. 
  • Mark Smith and Belgrove drove in the two runs. 
  • Derek Angell scored the winning run in the sixth, Field scored the other.
  • Field had a double, the only extra base hit in the game by either team. 
  • Smith, Belgrove, Field, and Lynch all had a stolen base in the victory.

How It Happened

Another low scoring pitchers duel between the Bucs and Vikings saw the first two innings go scoreless. Then, in the top of the third, the Bucs took the lead on an Estrada single that scored Houston. In the bottom of the inning, Smith hit a sacrifice fly to score Field and tie the game at 1-1.

Dean and Banche went back and forth on the hill and didn't allow a run on either side through the fourth and fifth. After a scoreless top of the sixth for Maritime, Salem scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the frame on a Belgrove single to center that scored Angell and gave the Vikes a 2-1 advantage. 

Boucher came in and shut down the Bucs in the seventh and stole a game from the Bucs, 2-1, in the series that the Buccaneers had secured after wins in games one and two.

The Bucs are on the road for their next game on Tuesday, April 23rd against Bridgewater State at 3:30pm.
