Bio

Steve Flanagan grew up near the ocean and developed a love for it at an early age. While he was still in high school, Steve joined the Coast Guard Reserves. Upon graduation and after enduring boot camp, Steve went to Wentworth Institute in Boston, majoring in Civil Engineering. After one year in the city, he realized he wanted to be at The Academy and transferred to Massachusetts Maritime. The regiment was “easy” for Steve as he was already in the reserves and had been through boot camp. One day, he saw a help wanted posting for the training room and he decided to give it a go. Steve worked with former head trainer Joe DeLauri his freshman year and covered all of the sports. From there, Steve got certified as an EMT, worked with Greg Folino and was approached going into his senior year to take a leadership role in the Regiment. Steve became a Battalion Commander and assisted the Academy Medical Staff processing new students and teaching CPR. Upon graduation, he had become close with Former Buccaneers Athletic Trainer Greg Folina and a number of the coaching staffs, including football, that he decided to stay on and volunteer with Greg on game days. That went on for a short 20 years. Currently, Steve is the Operations Manager at A.W. Chesterton Co. and through his efforts has been able to support MMA Scholarships for over 25 years. This ceremony also coincides with Steve’s 40th Class Reunion as a member of the class of 1982.
