Women's Cross Country Opens Season With Fourth Place Finish In Travis Fuller Invitational

The light drizzle and fog Saturday morning along the Cape Cod Canal was just fine with Emmanuel College senior Cathryn Lariviere (Windham, N.H./Salem). Lariviere was the top finisher in a field of 88 women in the Lt. Travis J. Fuller Cross-Country Invitational held on the campus of Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Lariviere covered the 5K course in 18:52.

The winning team was Emerson College with 48 points.

Grace Kaskie (Golf, IL./Glenbrook South) was the top Emerson harrier across the line in sixth place overall in a time of 20:36. Lauren Donahue (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) of Emerson took eighth at 20:42.

Salve Regina University (51 pts.) finished in second, with Emmanuel College (71 pts.) third. Massachusetts Maritime Academy ran fourth with 81 pts. Framingham State rounded out the top five with 140 pts.)

Courtney Testa (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) of U-Mass Dartmouth finished second overall with a time of 19:09. Christine Gaspar (North Attleboro, Mass./Cumberland) ran third at 20:21.

Lauren Fograshy (Monson, Mass./Monson) led the Buccaneers taking 14th place in 21:26. Teammate Patricia Malagrino (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) finished 17th for the Bucs at 21:34 leading a pack of runners that included; Emily Rizzo (Milwaukee, WI./St. Joan Antida) in 19th at 21:40 and Emily Burbank (Yarmouthport, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) in 20th at 21:42.
