WESTFIELD, Mass.-- The Massachusetts Maritime men's and women's cross country teams placed fourth and sixth, respectively, during competition at the 2008 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Westfield State at Stanley Park on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Kyle Ingersoll (Wakefield, Mass.) paced the Buccaneer men's squad with his second straight all-conference performance, as he placed fifth individually with a time of 26:59.35 over the 8K layout. Freshman Jonathan Quigley (Braintree, Mass.) was next in 15th place with a time of 27:59.14, while sophomores Paul Matz (Plainville, Mass.) and Patrick Dannaher (Arlington, Va.) followed in 23rd and 26th place, respectively, with times of 28:22.53 and 28:34.69. Junior Matthew Sturgis (Cummaquid, Mass.) rounded out the scoring by finishing 29th individually with a time of 28:45.63 for Massachusetts Maritime, which posted a total team score of 98 points on the day. Fitchburg State captured the MASCAC crown with a team score of 52 points, while Bridgewater State (58 points) and Westfield State (59 points) finished second and third, respectively.

The trio of senior Patricia Malagrino (Barrington, R.I.), freshman Emily Burbank (Yarmouthport, Mass.) and junior Lauren Fograshy (Monson, Mass.) placed 20th, 21st and 22nd, respectively, to lead the way on the women's side for the Buccaneers, who posted a team score of 126 points on the day. Malagrino posted a time of 21:57.16 over the 5K layout, while Burbank and Fograshy trailed that mark by two and four seconds, respectively. Senior Emily Rizzo (Milwaukee, Wis.) and junior Kaitlin O'Donnell (Damascus, Md.) rounded out the scoring for Massachusetts Maritime by placing 27th and 36th, respectively, with times of 22:17.85 and 23:56.59. Westfield State claimed its fifth straight MASCAC title with a team score of 24 points, while Bridgewater State (72 points) and Worcester State (90 points) finished a respective second and third in the team competition.

Both Buccaneer squads will return to Stanley Park next Saturday morning to compete in the Alliance (MASCAC/Little East) Championships beginning at 11:00 a.m.
