Buccaneers Shutout Gators on the Road

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass – Thursday afternoon, the Buccaneers travelled to Pine Manor College to take on the Gators in non-conference action, looking for their second win of the season. A quick goal in the second minute from Madison Taylor (Longmeadow, Mass) would be all the Bucs needed for the win but, they added three more for good measure for the 4-0 victory.

The Bucs rattled off 40 total shots, 27 of which were on target. Nine of those shots on goal came from the leg of Taylor who scored the first, and game winner, in the second minute and followed that up with another goal in the 12th minute. The goals were her eighth and ninth of the season. Sophomore, Anna Deely (Marstons Mills, Mass) netted her four goal of the season for the Buccaneers and freshman Hayley Caufield (Cheshire, Mass) scored the first goal of her Maritime career! Tallying assists in the game were senior Brittany Munson (Tolland, Mass), sophomore Colleen Sullivan (Braintree, Mass), and senior Brooke Miles (Lynn, Mass). Goalie, Rachel Gardner (Bourne, Mass) recorded a clean sheet in the game saving the lone shot on goal she faced.

The Gators had four shots in the game, with just the one on target from the foot of Feven Bedard-Khalid. Goalkeeper, Kristina Guinta saw 27 shots, saved 23 and allowed the four Buccaneer goals.

The Bucs wasted no time getting on the board when Taylor scored late in the second minute of the game, which wound up being the game winner. Taylor added her second 10 minutes later on a pass from Munson to give her team a 2-0 advantage. Less than three minutes after Taylor's second, Deely found the back of the net on a pass from Sullivan, giving Maritime a 3-0 lead before the 15 minute mark of the first half. In the 24th minute, Caufield celebrated with her teammates, scoring her first Buccaneer goal which was assisted by Miles, who scored her first career goal earlier in the season against Newbury.

The Buccaneers went to the halftime break with the 4-0 advantage over their hosts. In the second half, neither team found the back of the net but, Maritime did take an additional 19 shots after taking 21 in the first half. All of Pine Manor's shots came in the second half but the score remained the same and the Buccaneers left Chestnut Hill with their second win of the season, 4-0, over the Gators.

The Buccaneers have three games remaining on their schedule. Next up is a trip to Bridgewater State on Saturday, October 20th, for a MASCAC meeting with the Bears at 12pm.
