BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Michelle Sirois (Easton, Mass.) converted a penalty kick 6:50 into the second half to provide Regis with the only goal it would need in notching a 2-0 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The two squads played a scoreless opening 45 minutes of action before Sirois converted the penalty kick opportunity (her second marker of the season) for the visiting Pride (3-1) after the host Buccaneers (0-3) committed a hand ball foul in the box, and Regis took advantage of an own goal less than seven minutes later that provided the final margin, as a Massachusetts Maritime defender deflected a clearing attempt on that second tally.

Freshman Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.) picked up the win in goal for Regis with a pair of first half saves, while freshman Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) made 14 stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime as the Pride outshot the Buccaneers by a 23-5 margin for the match, including all 12 shots in the second half of play alone.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Westfield, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Westfield State in its Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Regis will be idle until next Tuesday evening when the Pride hosts Eastern Nazarene in a non-league match in Weston, Mass. beginning at 6:00 p.m.
