BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Meg Gearin (Groton, Mass.) scored a pair of goals and added an assist for five points to lead Westfield State to an 8-0 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference women's soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Gearin combined with junior Kate MacLellan (Wilbraham, Mass.) to net three tallies in the first 24:38 of action for the visiting Owls (9-1-1, 3-0 MASCAC), who extended their winning streak to seven straight and their unbeaten string to nine consecutive contests in the process.  Senior Alicia Chandler's (Duxbury, Mass.) marker in the 30th minute extended Westfield State's advantage to 4-0 at the break, and a pair of goals by freshman Lindsey Peterson (Taunton, Mass.) in the 64th and 75th minutes, respectively, extended that margin to 6-0.  Sophomore Ashley Kulik (Granby, Conn.) and junior Ali Pease (Ludlow, Mass.) closed out the scoring for the visitors by tallying 2:20 apart in the final six-plus minutes of action.

MacLellan and Chandler added a pair of assists to their goals to finish with four points for the Owls, who also received a goal and an assist each from Kulik and Pease and a single helper from freshman Jayna Tabke (Carver, Mass.).  Sophomore Jessica Pieciak (Three Rivers, Mass.) picked up her ninth win of the season in goal for Westfield State without making a save over the first 45 minutes of play, while freshman Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) notched 18 stops in net in the setback for the host Buccaneers (0-9, 0-3 MASCAC) as the Owls had all 40 shots for the evening.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Saturday, October 10th when the Buccaneers head to North Adams, Mass. to take on MCLA in a MASCAC outing that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Westfield State hosts Keene State in a non-league match on Wednesday evening in Westfield, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m.
