CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --  Junior Ashley Greene-Allen (Brockton, Mass.) and freshman Holly Ballard (Douglas, Mass.) each scored goals to lift Newbury to a 2-0 non-league college women's soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime in the season opener for both schools Saturday afternoon at Pine Manor Field.

Greene-Allen gave the host Nighthawks (1-0) the only marker they would need in the 22nd minute of action when she converted a feed from freshman Ashleigh Guy (North Smithfield, R.I.), and Ballard added an insurance tally just 2:17 after intermission off a second Guy assist to account for the final score.  Freshman Jennifer Anderson (Palmer, Mass.) made that stand up in goal for Newbury, as she made five saves to record her first collegiate victory and shutout.

Freshman Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) was sharp in her collegiate debut in goal as well for the visiting Buccaneers (0-1) with a 12-save effort as the Nighthawks outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 31-5 margin for the match.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Becker in a non-league outing on Wednesday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Newbury heads back to Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon for a non-league contest with Pine Manor that begins at 4:00 p.m.
