BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and four assists for six points to lead Bridgewater State to a 16-1 New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Bears (7-6, 5-0 NEWLA) jumped out to a 12-0 halftime advantage en route to their fourth straight triumph, as freshman Riley Cachelin (Westwood, Mass.) tallied twice and added two assists for Bridgewater State, which also received a pair of markers and a helper each from junior Michelle Navoni (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshman Katharine Trahan (Burlington, Mass.).  Senior Stephanie Lannon (Swampscott, Mass.) added two goals for the winners, who also received a goal and an assist each from sophomores Braylan Wenzel (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Kinsley Willis (Canton, Mass.) as well as single markers off the sticks of junior Sammi Salverio (Hanson, Mass.), sophomore Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.) and freshmen Amanda Liebetruth (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Samantha Devine (Marshfield, Mass.).

Senior Shauna Callinan (West Falmouth, Mass.) netted the lone marker in the setback for the host Buccaneers (2-10, 1-5 NEWLA), as sophomore Victoria Moore (Duxbury, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Bridgewater State with a pair of saves in 21 minutes of action.  Freshman Jessica Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) added three stops in 21 minutes in net for the visitors, while freshmen Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) and Tenley Gillett (Manchester, N.H.) combined for nine saves in goal for Massachusetts Maritime.  The Bears outshot the Buccaneers by a 26-7 margin for the match while holding a 13-6 edge in draw controls.

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Salem, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Salem State in a New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance outing that begins at 6:30 p.m., while Bridgewater State hosts Mount Holyoke in a non-league contest on Thursday evening in Bridgewater, Mass. beginning at 6:00 p.m.
