Track & Field Finishes 7th & 14th at Jim Sheehan Invitational

FITCHBURG, Mass – After a second place finish by the men's track & field team on Friday at Regis College, the team finished seventh at Fitchburg State's Jim Sheehan Invitational on Saturday. The women's team placed 14th out of 19 teams.

Though he didn't set any personal records on Saturday, like he did on Friday, Colin McCabe (Dartmouth, Mass) won the shot put event for the second time in as many days with a qualifying throw of 16.24 meters. Freshman Gerard Mackin has been climbing up the shot put ranks all season, finishing fifth in Fitchburg with a qualifying toss of 13.60 meters.

A day after winning the 400 meter hurdle event, Alec Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass) finished sixth in the 110 meter hurdles with a final time of 18.60 second. Goldenberg then finished fifth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:04.73. In the 4x400 meter relay, a group that included Goldenberg, the Bucs finished fourth with a time of 3:43.82.

All-in-all, the Bucs finished seventh overall with 26 points.

The women's team finished 14th in a field of 19 teams with six points. All six points were picked up by Captain Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass) in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. She finished with a time of 14.436 seconds in the 100 meter and 30.68 seconds in the 200 meter. She finished 14th and 19th in the events respectively.

Finally, junior Meaghan Hamilton (Braintree, Mass) finished third in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 14:07.71.

Next up for the Bucs, they will travel to Connecticut College to take part in the Silfin Track & Field Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Events begin on Friday at 4:30pm and at 9am on Saturday.
