Buccaneers Swept by MCLA in MASCAC Doubleheader

NORTH ADAMS, Mass – Sunday afternoon, the Buccaneers travelled to North Adams to take on MCLA in a conference doubleheader that had been postponed from the day before. Looking for their first win of the season, the Bucs dropped both games to the Trailblazers, 11-1 by mercy rule in the fifth inning, and 3-1.

 

Game One

How It Happened

MCLA scored six runs in the top of the first to start their trek towards the five inning victory. They scored once more in the second and four more times in the bottom of the third.

In the fourth inning, Maritime plated their first and only run on a Hannah Benton (Barnstable, Mass) sacrifice bunt that scored freshman Malarie Pittsley (Dighton, Mass). The scoring ended there for both teams and MCLA too kgame one after five innings, 11-1.

At The Plate

MCLA batted .500 in game one, 12-for-24 at the plate. Four players had multi-hit games for the Blazers. Erika Quakenbush drove in a game-high three runs.

Three different players scored two times in game one.

MCLA had six extra base hits in the game, all doubles, two by Kara Adams.

The Trailblazers walked just once, did not strike out in the game and left four runners on base.

The Bucs went 3-for-16 at the plate. Madison Ovadek (Greenland, N.H.) had the only multi-hit game. Benton drove in the lone run.

Maritime drew three walks, struck out once and left four runners on base.

 

Game Two

How It Happened

In a much lower scoring game two, MCLA scored first once again in the bottom of the first and added their second run in the second.

After a scoreless third inning, the Bucs found their way on to the scoreboard scoring a run on an Emily Goodwin (Halifax, Mass) single, plating Lucia Buzzell (Quincy, Mass).

The 'Blazers scored their third and final run in the bottoms of the sixth frame to seal their 3-1 game two win, and doubleheader sweep.

At The Plate

MCLA went 6-for-28 at the plate in game two. Cassandra Crosier was the only player with a multi-hit game.

Kaitlyn Berghela drove in two runs for the hosts.

The Trailblazers drew one walk, struck out once and left nine runners on base.

Maritime batted .200 in the second game, going 5-for-25 at the plate. Goodwin had the only multi-hit game and RBI.

The Bucs drew no walks, struck out six times and left three runners on base.
