Owls Sweep Buccaneers in Framingham

FRAMINGHAM, Mass – Maine-Presque Isle stopped in to Framingham on their way back to Maine to take on the Bucs at Framingham State in a double header Sunday afternoon. Though Maritime started strong in both games, they ended up falling to the Owls in five innings in both games, 10-2 and 15-1.

 

Game One

How It Happened

Preque-Isle scored twice in the top of the first in game one but, the Bucs matched them in the bottom of the inning when junior captain Madison Ovadek (Greenland, N.H.) singled to drive in Melissa Cochrane (Walpole, Mass) and junior Jenna Nalette (Gofftown, N.H.) singled, driving in freshman Malarie Pittsley (Dighton, Mass). That was the end of the scoring for Maritime as Owls pitcher Brookelynn Garcia shut down the Buccaneer offense. The Owls, however, would place eight more runs to take a 10-2 lead, the score that would eventually earn them the five inning, mercy rule win.

Maritime had five hits in game one, two from leadoff hitter Cochrane and two from Ovadek.

The Bucs drew three walks, Pittsley drew two.

Buccaneers hitters struck out just 6 times in the game.

Cochrane and Pittsley scored the two runs for the hosts.

Ovadek recorded the lone extra base hit for the Bucs in the game.

UMPI racked up 13 hits in the first game, four of which came from lead-off hitter Jordi Lagassie (Presque-Isle, Maine).

While the Owls only drew two walks, they did not strike out in game one.

Seven different Owls scored in the game, Legassie scored three times, Jordan Hanson (Phillips, NE) twice.

Legassie stole two bases for the visitors.

 

 

Game 2

How It Happened

The Owls Scored first and never looks back in game two. They scored three times in the top of the first which was then answered by one run by the Bucs in the bottom of the inning on a Malarie Pittsley (Dighton, Mass) home run to left center field, the first of her career.

UMPI chipped away, scoring three more times in the second, put up a zero in the third, added four more runs in the fourth and finished off the game with six runs in the top of the fifth to take game two and a sweep of the day with another five inning, mercy rule win over the Bucs.

Maritime was held to just two hits in game two. One from Pittsley, the other from Meghan Reilly (Pawling, N.Y.).

Pittsley scored the lone Buccaneer run.

The Bucs worked one walk and struck out once.

UMPI accumulated 17 hits in the game, worked two walks and only struck out twice.

The Owls had three extra base hits in the game, a double, triple and home run.

Legassie had another four hit game in game two. She also scored four times. Sarah Duncklee also had four hits in the game for the visitors and drove in eight runs.

 

Up Next: The Buccaneers will take on Dean College at 3:30 and 5:30pm on Tuesday in non-conference play. The games will be played at Mass Maritime and the Bucs will act as the away team as the game site was moved.
