BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Molly Dunbar (Weymouth, Mass.) rapped out five hits and drove in eight runs to lead Westfield State to a sweep of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime Sunday afternoon by scores of 22-1 in the opener and 21-1 in the nightcap in league games played at Alison Rollins Field.

The visiting Owls (9-6, 2-2 MASCAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opener and took control of the contest with a nine-run second inning rally, as Dunbar collected a double and a triple in driving in four runs in support of senior Kelley Fluet (Worcester, Mass.), who went the first three frames to even her record at 3-3 on the spring inside the circle.  Dunbar, senior Amanda Flower (Reading, Mass.) and juniors Brianne Bisceglia (Worcester, Mass.) and Kat Robinson (East Hampton, Conn.) each had two hits in the lid-lifter for Westfield State, while senior Crystal Sherman (Charlton, Mass.) drove in the lone run of the opener for the host Buccaneers (0-6, 0-4 MASCAC) with a fifth inning single.  Sophomore Cassie Swanson (Quincy, Mass.) allowed six earned runs and struck out a career-high six in suffering the setback on the mound for the hosts.

Massachusetts Maritime took a 1-0 first inning lead in the nightcap on an RBI double off the bat of freshman Kristen O’Brien (Boston, Mass.), but the Owls broke things open by plating 15 runs in the second inning en route to the sweep, as Flower rapped out three hits and drove in five runs while Dunbar added three more hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in four for the winners.  Bisceglia, Robinson and freshman Paige Circosta (Feeding Hills, Mass.) added two hits each for Westfield State in support of junior Emily Mailloux (Erving, Mass.), who picked up the win with three relief innings to improve to 4-3 on the season.  Freshman Cassidy Nice (Carver, Mass.) went the distance in taking the setback on the mound for the Buccaneers.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Leicester, Mass. on Thursday afternoon to take Becker in a non-league doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Westfield State hosts Smith in a non-league twinbill on Tuesday afternoon in Westfield, Mass. that also begins at 3:30 p.m.
