Junior Emily Pontes (Tewksbury, Mass.) added a pair of doubles and four RBI on the day for the host Corsairs (6-6), who used a 17-run outburst in their first two at-bats to take control of the opener.  Freshman Shannon Droney (Franklin, Mass.) added four hits and four RBI in the first game triumph for UMass Dartmouth, as freshman Shannon Orton (Swansea, Mass.) allowed seven hits and fanned eight inside the circle to pick up the victory.

Senior Meghan Thibeault (Scituate, Mass.) rapped out an RBI single in the fifth inning to account for the visiting Buccaneers’ (0-2) tally in the opener, as fellow seniors Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.), sophomore Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.) and freshmen Marissa Boudreau (New Bedford, Mass.), Taylor Winkler (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Brittany Driscoll (Spencer, Mass.) added hits, with Weir collecting a double.  Beualieu went the distance in suffering the setback on the mound for Massachusetts Maritime in the first contest and the collegiate debut of Head Coach Megan Giammalvo.

The Buccaneers jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead in the nightcap when Johnson singled home Beaulieu, but UMass Dartmouth answered back with seven runs in its first two at-bats, as four Corsairs each drove in runs.  Freshman Amanda McHugh (North Kingstown, R.I.) picked up the win on the mound for the hosts in fanning three, while Johnson, Driscoll and senior Erin Eastman (Harwich, Mass.) rapped out hits in the nightcap setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as Boudreau fanned a pair in her collegiate pitching debut for the visitors.
