BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman Kelsey Norberg (Uxbridge, Mass.) tossed a no-hitter and fanned five in facing one batter over the minimum in five innings to lead Becker to an 8-0 nightcap victory and a sweep of a non-league college softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime Thursday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field, as the Hawks received two hits and a pair of RBI from freshman Jessica Wheelahan (Watertown, Conn.) in the opener en route to a 7-2 triumph.

Norberg issued a two-out walk in the first inning of the nightcap, as she picked up both wins inside the circle on the day for the visiting Hawks (12-8).  Becker plated a pair of runs in both the first and third innings of the second contest before tacking on four more in the fifth frame to complete the sweep, as Norberg, senior Maggie Levesque (North Adams, Mass.) and freshmen Jaclyn Orangio (Maynard, Mass.) and Victoria Horning (Riverview, Fla.) each had two hits and an RBI as part of a nine-hit attack for the visitors, as freshman Cassie Swanson (Quincy, Mass.) allowed just four earned runs and struck out four in suffering the setback inside the circle for the host Buccaneers (0-10).

Becker broke open a scoreless opening game with a three-run fourth inning rally that was highlighted by Wheelahan’s two-run single and an RBI safety off the bat of Levesque, but Massachusetts Maritime closed back to within one in the bottom of the frame when seniors Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) scored on an error.  The Hawks closed out the scoring with four insurance tallies in the top of the seventh, as the visitors took advantage of a pair of errors to notch the opening game victory.

Levesque and Wheelahan each had two hits as part of a 10-hit opening game attack for Becker, as Norberg helped her own cause with a pair of safeties in allowing a pair of unearned runs and fanning 12, improving to 8-4 on the season with the sweep.  Beaulieu recorded a pair of hits, including a double, in the lid-lifter for the Buccaneers, as she allowed three earned runs and struck out two in suffering the setback on the mound for the hosts, who also received a single off the bat of Johnson.

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Fitchburg, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Becker hosts Newbury in a New England Collegiate Conference twinbill on Saturday afternoon in Leicester, Mass. at Noon.
