Weir Raps Out Triple As Softball Drops MASCAC Doubleheader Decision At Salem State

GAME #1 FINAL:          SALEM STATE 17, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0 (5 INNINGS)

GAME #2 FINAL:          SALEM STATE 22, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0 (5 INNINGS)

SALEM, Mass. --  Junior Alyssa Bryan (Stoneham, Mass.) tossed a five inning perfect game in the nightcap to follow a one-hit effort in the opener from senior Katelynn Fanning (East Boston, Mass.) as Salem State swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening by scores of 17-0 and 22-0 in games played at Alumni Field.

Junior Lauren Garchinsky (Saugus, Mass.) rapped out five hits and drove in eight runs on the night for the host Vikings (24-8, 7-1 MASCAC), who also received five hits and four RBI from junior Christina Cipriani (Peabody, Mass.) in support of Bryan and Fanning, who combined for 22 strikeouts.

Freshman Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.) collected a fifth inning triple in the opening game setback for the visiting Buccaneers (2-17, 0-8 MASCAC), as junior Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and sophomore Jennifer March (Pawtucket, R.I.) suffered the setbacks inside the circle.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Westfield, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Westfield State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader that begins at Noon, while Salem State travels to North Dartmouth, Mass. on Thursday afternoon for a non-league twinbill with UMass Dartmouth that begins at 3:30 p.m.
