BOSTON, Mass. --  Junior Jen Giudice (Central Valley, N.Y.) collected three hits and drove in five runs to lead Wentworth to a sweep of a non-league college softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime by scores of 11-3 and 12-2 in a pair of five inning contests played Tuesday afternoon at Carr Diamond.

The host Leopards (10-11) grabbed a 3-0 lead through three innings of play in the opener on an RBI double by junior Bridget Souza (Medford, Mass), a sacrifice fly by senior Caylee Johanson (Windsor, Conn.) and a wild pitch, but the visiting Buccaneers (2-6) evened matters with three tallies in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by freshman Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and a run-scoring triple off the bat of freshman Meghan Thibeault (Scituate, Mass.) that sandwiched a throwing error.  Wentworth plated the deciding runs in the bottom of the frame with an eight-run rally, keyed by a two-run single by Giudice, as the hosts also received RBI single from freshman Krysta Cuhna (New Bedford, Mass.), a run-scoring double from Souza and a pair of bases-loaded walks to senior Cherie Dunn (Acton, Mass.) and sophomore Randi Swihart (Gardner, Mass.).  Cuhna collected three hits in the opener for the Leopards, who also received two hits each from Souza, Johanson (who allowed five hits and fanned four to pick up the win inside the circle) and senior Nicole Ferreira (Framingham, Mass.).  Senior Jess O’Meara (Stoneham, Mass.), junior Katie Maynard (Chelmsford, Mass.) and freshman Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) rapped out singles in the opening game setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as Beaulieu suffered the setback on the mound for the visitors.

Wentworth took control of the nightcap with three runs in its first at-bat on a Johanson groundout and a Ferreira double, and the Leopards extended their advantage to 9-0 with a six-run third inning outburst, keyed by a two-run single off the bat of junior Lizz Harvey (McConnellsburg, Pa.) along with RBI safeties by Giudice and Souza.  Massachusetts Maritime plated a pair of runs in the fourth when O’Meara scored on a wild pitch and sophomore Holly McLaughlin (Belmont, Mass.) followed suit on a passed ball, and the hosts iced their second game triumph with three runs in the bottom of the frame, two of which came courtesy of a Giudice double.  Ferreira paced a 10-hit Wentworth attack with three safeties in the nightcap, as she and Giudice both drove in three runs in support of Johanson, who allowed a pair of unearned runs and struck out three over four innings to pick up the win for the Leopards.  Thibeault and McLaughlin recorded singles in the second game setback for the Buccaneers, as Beaulieu struck out a pair in going the distance inside the circle.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to North Adams, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on MCLA in a MASCAC doubleheader that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Wentworth hosts Anna Maria in a Commonwealth Coast Conference twinbill on Thursday afternoon at Carr Diamond that begins at 3:30 p.m.
