BOSTON, Mass. -- Freshman Kasey O'Connell (Quincy, Mass.) rapped out four hits and drove in four runs to lead UMass Boston to a sweep of a non-league college softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime by scores of 12-2 in the opener and 20-0 in the nightcap in games played Wednesday afternoon at Clark Athletic Field.

Sophomore Lisa Polsonetti (Revere, Mass.) and freshman Sue Killilea (Abington, Mass.) each drove in three runs in the opening game triumph for the host Beacons (15-10), who scored all of their runs over the first two frames. Sophomore Kara Willis (Burrillville, R.I.) went the distance on the mound to pick up the win for UMass Boston, as she fanned eight in allowing just one earned run. The visiting Buccaneers (2-10) jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead on an RBI groundout off the bat of sophomore Holly McLaughlin (Belmont, Mass.), and freshman Meghan Thibeault (Scituate, Mass.) added a fifth inning RBI double to account for both Massachusetts Maritime tallies in the opener. Freshman Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) collected two hits in the first outing for the visitors and suffered the setback on the mound.

The Beacons plated all of their runs over the first three innings in the nightcap, including 10 tallies in the second frame, as O'Connell led a 16-hit attack with three hits and a pair of RBI. Freshman Taryn Asta (Marshfield, Mass.) added a pair of hits and four RBI for UMass Boston, which also received two hits and three RBI off the bat of freshman Marisa McKinnon (Revere, Mass.). Junior Emily Wolf (Salem, N.H.) went the distance on the mound for the hosts, scattering three hits and fanning five for her eighth win of the spring. Senior Jess O'Meara (Stoneham, Mass.) was 2-for-2 in the nightcap setback for Massachusetts Maritime, while junior Katie Maynard (Chelmsford, Mass.) also collected a hit for the Buccaneers.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Leicester, Mass. tomorrow afternoon to take on Becker in a non-league doubleheader that begins at 3:30 p.m., while UMass Boston travels to Providence, R.I. on Saturday afternoon to take on Rhode Island College in a Little East twinbill that begins at 1:00 p.m.
