LEICESTER, Mass. -- Junior Lindsay Hanna (Portland, Maine) rapped out five hits and drove in six runs to lead Becker to a sweep of a non-league college softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime by scores of 17-4 in the opener and 10-6 in the nightcap in games played Thursday afternoon at Russell Field.

Hanna's three-run homer in the second inning of the opener enabled the host Hawks (7-15) to control and cap a seven-run rally, as fellow junior Felicia Laufer (Salem, Conn.) added a lead-off homer and drove in three runs as well for Becker. Senior Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, Mass.) chipped in with a pair of hits and three RBI for the hosts, who collected 11 hits overall and plated all of their runs in the first four innings of action in support of sophomore Jessica Lewis (Bellingham, Mass.), who allowed a pair of earned runs and struck out two for her fourth win of the season. The visiting Buccaneers (2-12) grabbed a 2-0 advantage in their first at-bat on an RBI single by senior Jess O'Meara (Stoneham, Mass.) and a bases-loaded walk to freshman Erin Eastman (Harwich, Mass.), as Massachusetts Maritime plated single runs in the fourth and fifth frames on an error and an RBI groundout by sophomore Holly McLaughlin (Belmont, Mass.). O'Meara and McLaughlin each went 2-for-3 in the opening game setback for the visitors, as freshman Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) allowed six earned runs and struck out a pair inside the circle.

Becker jumped out to a 6-1 second inning lead in the nightcap on the strength of a Hanna RBI triple, a run-scoring double by Laufer as well as RBI singles off the bats of Lewis and freshman Larissa Paula (Lynn, Mass.), but Massachusetts Maritime closed back to within a pair at 7-5 in the top of the fifth with a three-run rally that included an RBI double by O'Meara and a two-run single off the bat of McLaughlin. The Hawks added three insurance runs over their next two at-bats, highlighted by a pair of RBI singles by freshman Paige Needham (Worcester, Mass.), as the Buccaneers scored their final run in the seventh on freshman Meghan Thibeault's (Scituate, Mass.) first career home run. Hanna, Laufer and Tibbetts each had two hits as part of a 12-hit attack in the nightcap for Becker, as Needham struck out seven in going the distance to pick up her third victory of the spring inside the circle for the Hawks. McLaughlin, who suffered the setback on the mound for the visitors, capped a six-hit afternoon by going 4-for-4 with two RBI in the nightcap setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received three hits from Beaulieu as part of a 12-hit effort.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Framingham State in a MASCAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field beginning at Noon, while Becker travels to Longmeadow, Mass. on Saturday afternoon for an NECC twinbill with Bay Path that begins at 1:00 p.m.
