Large Field Tough to Beat for Cross Country

DARTMOUTH, Mass – Saturday morning, the men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Dartmouth to race in the Shriner's Invitational at UMass-Dartmouth. In a field of 37 teams in the women's division, the Bucs finished in 31st. Out of 36 teams, the men came across in 33rd.

The Buccaneer women finished the day in 31st with a total team time of 1:56:54.55 and an average race time of 23:22.91. Lily Hakkarainen (Chesterfield, N.H.) was the top finisher for the women in 179th place with a time of 22:12.61. Senior Meaghan Hamilton (Braintree, Mass) was the only other Maritime runner to finish in the top 200, at 199, with a time of 23:08.15.

On the men's side, Daniel Plumb (Hopkinton, Mass) posted his third top finish on the team of the season with a final time of 29:16.19 in 154th place overall. Freshman Michael Fappiano-Puttre (New Ipswich, N.H.) finished second on the team for the second time in as many weeks. In 175th place overall, he finished in 29:59.32. Overall, the Bucs finished with a total time of 2:31:39.60, averaging 30:19.92 per runner.

The Buccaneers are at home next weekend for the 15th Annual Travis Fuller Invitational on Friday, September 27th. The Race will be run on the Cape Cod Canal trail, beginning at Buzzards Bay Park. The Women's race begins at 3:30pm while the men will go off at 4pm.
