Bucs Fall to Corsairs on the Road

DARTMOUTH, Mass – Coming off of a 2-1 win over SUNY Maritime on Saturday evening, the Buccaneer men's soccer team (1-3-1) traveled to Dartmouth to take on the Corsairs (1-1) on Monday night. A stout UMD defense kept the Bucs off the board and the hosts took the non-conference contest, 4-0.

The Buccaneers took eight shots in the game, five of which were on target. Junior Brady Lemmon (California, MD) took two of those shots, both on net. Michael Carey (Plympton, Mass), Benjamin Cook (Fort Myer, FL) and Liam McDonough (West Newbury, Mass) were responsible for the other three on target shots. Goalkeeper Mitch Hardy (Pepperell, Mass) started the game in goal, allowing three of the four Corsair goals and making three saves. John Murphy (Braintree, Mass) came in in the second half, facing three shots, making two saves and allowing one goal.

Dartmouth's Rony Morales scored a brace and had an assist for the Corsairs. Junior Monteiro found the back of the net and assisted on both of Morales' goals. Matthew Alvarez was responsible for the fourth UMD goal. Goalkeeper Jacob Castro made five saves in the game to pick up the win.

Dartmouth scored three of their goals in the first half. Morales scored the eventual game winner in the 18th minute on a crossed in pass by Monteiro. Alvarez found the back of the net in the 25th minute from just outside the penalty area. Morales scored his second in the 37th minute from 15 yards out, assisted again by Monteiro. The teams went to the break with the score 3-0 in favor of the hosts.

In the second half, Monteiro scored his first and the final Corsair goal of the game off of a rebound from the post in front of goal. The Buccaneers attacked often in the second half, getting off six shots, compared to the two they had in the first half, but were unable to break through. The games ended 4-0 in favor of Dartmouth.

The Buccaneers will be home on Wednesday night to take on the Nichols College Bison at Clean Harbors Stadium in non-conference play at 7pm.
