Buccaneer Men's Soccer Eyes September Opener

The Massachusetts Maritime Academy men’s soccer squad will be looking to improve upon their 6-11-1 record from 2017 and this season will take the pitch with a veteran crew, having lost just four seniors to graduation. Head coach Greg Perry will lead the team onto the field for his 26th NCAA Division III soccer season and will have his squad fired-up and ready to go.

The Buccaneers will return seven starters and will once again be looking for scoring from last season’s high scorer, Adam Crawford (Kingston/Silver Lake), who finished the season with five goals and three assists (13 points). Crawford will be backed up by a strong attack featuring transfer midfielder Ben Cook (Ft. Meyers, FL) and MMA returning midfielder Brendan Gawron (Braintree, Mass./Braintree).

The opening day keeper spot remains open after the graduation of last year’s starting goalie Mike Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass./Old Rochester).

The Buccaneers will be captained this fall by seniors Nick Van Ness (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) and Zach O’Neil Scituate, Mass./Scituate).

The Buccaneers will open the 2018 men’s soccer season on Saturday, September 1 when they will host Suffolk University at noon.  Two more home matches follow with Newbury College and Dean College visiting Clean Harbors Stadium before the Buccaneers hit the road to face WPI, Nichols, Salem State and Salve Regina. Massachusetts Maritime will also host Fitchburg State, Brandeis and MCLA in September.

In October the Buccaneers will welcome UMass Dartmouth, Bridgewater State and Anna Maria to Clean Harbors Stadium, while taking to the road to play Westfield State Framingham State, Coast Guard and Worcester State.
