Pforr Scores First Career Goal As Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Season Opener At Suffolk

EAST BOSTON, Mass. --  Sophomore Felipe Ucros’s goal 4:04 into the second half proved to be the game-winner and lifted Suffolk to a 2-1 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime in the season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Sartori Stadium.

 

The host Rams (1-0) grabbed the early advantage when sophomore James Fisher (Longmeadow, Mass.) converted a pass from junior Jordan Casey (East Hampton, Conn.) in the 22nd minute, but the visiting Buccaneers (0-1) evened matters in the 38th minute of play when sophomore Jake Pforr (Weymouth, Mass.) converted a feed from fellow sophomore Adam Crawford (Kingston, Mass.) for his first collegiate goal.  Ucross took a pass from fellow sophomore Christian Restepo Revere, Mass.) on the game-winner for Suffolk, as junior Kyle Van Cleef (Sandwich, Mass.) made two of his eight saves in net in the final 45 minutes of action to earn the triumph in net for the hosts.

 

Senior Mike Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) made 10 stops (five in each half) in suffering the setback in goal for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Buccaneers held a 17-16 edge in total shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks, but the Rams outshot the visitors by a 12-9 margin on goal for the afternoon.

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Wentworth in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Suffolk hosts Framingham State in a non-league contest Sunday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park that begins at 1:00 p.m.
