FINAL:              BRIDGEWATER STATE 2, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --  Junior Filipe Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde) scored with six seconds remaining to lift Bridgewater State to a 2-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

Gomes went the length of the field and netted the deciding goal from the right side of the net for the host Bears (5-8-3, 2-3-1 MASCAC), who took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute on sophomore Justin Borges’s (Milford, Mass.) tally that was set up on a Gomes feed.  Sophomore Adam Crawford (Kingston, Mass.) evened matters for the visiting Buccaneers (5-9-1, 3-3 MASCAC) with just 27 seconds remaining in the first half with a header off of senior Mick Rouette’s (Three Rivers, Mass.) direct kick, and that score held up until Gomes’s last second heroics.

Sophomore Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with a six save effort for Bridgewater State, while senior Mike Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) also made six stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime.  The Bears outshot the Buccaneers by a 21-18 margin overall (8-7 on goal) and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Franklin, Mass. on Monday afternoon to take on Dean in a non-league outing that begins at 3:30 p.m., while Bridgewater State hosts Babson in a non-league clash on Tuesday evening at Swenson Field beginning at 7:00 p.m.
