FINAL:              NICHOLS 2, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Alex Geas (Somers, Conn.) made six saves to record his third win and first shutout of the season in goal to lead Nichols to a 2-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Bison (4-3) got the only marker they would need in the 59th minute of play on an own goal that deflected in off a defender, and junior Ryan Banker (Ashaway, R.I.) provided an insurance tally in the 70th minute for Nichols, as he converted a throw-in from sophomore Cooper Milano (Caldwell, N.J.) for his first goal of the season that accounted for the final score.

Geas made three saves in each half to record the triumph in net for the Bison, while junior Joe Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) made nine stops in the setback for the host Buccaneers (1-3).  Nichols outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 17-9 margin overall (11-6 on goal) and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Worcester State in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Nichols travels to Beverly, Mass. on Friday evening to take on Endicott in a Commonwealth Coast Conference clash that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
