Cohen Makes Six Saves As Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 MASCAC Decision At Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. --  Junior Jared Burns (East Bridgewater, Mass.) netted an unassisted goal in the 29th minute of play that enabled Fitchburg State to post a 1-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday morning at Elliot Field.

 

Burns lofted a shot from 25 yards out to collect his sixth tally of the season for the host Falcons (5-6, 1-3 MASCAC), and sophomore Alex Alzaibak (Hingham, Mass.) made that stand up in goal for Fitchburg State, as he made four saves to earn his second win of the season.  Junior Joe Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) made six stops in net in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (4-6, 2-2 MASCAC), as each team had 17 total shots in a match that saw Massachusetts Maritime hold a 7-4 advantage in corners, including six in the final 45 minutes of play.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Waltham, Mass. on Tuesday evening to battle sixth-ranked Brandeis in a non-league match beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Fitchburg State hosts Eastern Connecticut in a non-league outing on Tuesday evening at Elliot Field that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
